The research carried out in the last year are related to some fundamental aspects of reproductive biology and embryonic development in some groups of Arthropods.
The research, carried out by morpho-histological, ultrastructural, immunocytochemical and experimental methods, were finalised to clear up:
- the ultrastructural features of the spermatozoa and of their forms of aggregation (spermatodesms, spermatophore etc.) in Insects (Orthoptera, Fasmodea, Mantodea, Aphidoidea) and in the Isopoda Oniscidea;
- the ultrastructure of female genital tracts;
- the ultrastructure of the male genital apparatus and the molecular characteristics of secretory products of genital duct and accessory glands;
- the role of male accessory glands in spermatodesms reorganization observed during the course of mating and their transfer in female genital tracts in the Orthoptera Tettigonioidea;
- the ultrastructural aspects of sperm storage in the seminal receptacle in some species of Isopoda Oniscidea (Crustacea).
Other studies, in course of development, aim to clarify the functional role of the male and female accessory glands of Orthoperan and the research of antibacterial peptides associated; use of Arthopods as biological monitors of pollutant molecules and research of exposure biomarkers with immunohistochemical and molecular techniques.
