P.O. di Zoologia presso la Facoltà di Scienze MM.FF.NN. dell'Università di Catania. Tiene i corsi ufficiali di Zoologia e di Evoluzione Biologica nel Corso di Laurea in Scienze Biologiche. Fa parte del Dottorato di Ricerca in Biologia Evoluzionistica. Ha diretto l'Istituto Policattedra di Biologia Animale dell'Università di Catania ed è stata Presidente del Corso di Laurea in Scienze Biologiche dall’A.A. 1997/98 all’A.A. 2001/02. La sua attività di ricerca verte sulla filogenesi, la faunistica e l'ecologia dei nematodi liberi del suolo e dell'acqua dolce. Recentemente ha svolto ricerche riguardanti i nematodi entomopatogeni e il loro impiego nella lotta biologica contro gli insetti parassiti di colture agricole. Su queste tematiche ha prodotto numerose pubblicazioni scientifiche. La prof. Vinciguerra ha coordinato numerosi progetti di ricerca nazionali ed internazionali. Attualmente è responsabile di una linea di ricerca dal titolo “Biodiversità e filogenesi animale in sistemi mediterranei e tropicali” finanziata dall’Ateneo.

Temi di Ricerca
The main objects of the research are the following: 1) faunistic, taxonomic and ecological study of the nematodes inhabiting the natural ecosystems of Sicily; 2) systematic revision of genera and families of nematodes; 3) faunistic and taxonomic study of nematodes of forest environments of South America; 4) study on the changes in nematode communities of terrestrial ecosystems in relation to environmental disturb and environmental monitoring. 5) study of the biodiversity and of the biology of entomopathogenic nematodes as biocontrol agents.
