Dal 1985 al 1989: studente del corso di laurea in Scienze Biologiche presso l'Università di Catania e laurea conseguita l’11-07-1989. Dal 1989 al 1992: Dottorato di ricerca in “Scienze Genetiche (Genetica e Biologia Molecolare)” presso l'Università di Pavia. Dal 1992 al 1994: post-doc presso l’Università di Leiden (Olanda) e presso l’Université Paris 7 di Parigi (Francia). Dal 1995 al 1998: ricercatore di Genetica presso l'Università degli Studi di Catania. Dal 1998 al 2001: professore associato di Genetica presso l'Università degli Studi di Bologna.
